On the afternoon of September 2, as part of post-meeting events between Chinese and Kazakh heads of state in Tianjin, universities from both countries held a centralized signing ceremony in Beijing. Liaoning Petrochemical University (LNPU) was invited to sign agreements with Atyrau Oil and Gas University (AOGU) of Kazakhstan, covering educational cooperation and an international joint laboratory for petrochemical technology. The signing was witnessed by Sayasat Nurbek, Kazakhstan’s Minister of Science and Higher Education, with LNPU Vice President Cao Jiangtao and AOGU’s Chairperson & President Gulzada Shakulikova representing their universities.
Cao noted LNPU’s role in China’s petrochemical sector, calling the cooperation a key step for internationalization and a response to the Belt and Road Initiative. Shakulikova highlighted AOGU’s strength in energy studies, expecting improved talent training and opportunities for Kazakh students to learn from China.
The deals open a new chapter for both universities and boost education-energy cooperation under the SCO, fostering closer China-Kazakhstan energy exchanges.
